Emotional Neglect and Children

Being a parent is one of the most challenging roles anyone can take. By having a child, you are taking responsibility for the well-being of another person for the rest of their life. Even after your child grows up and leaves, you remain deeply connected with them. This connection can take on many forms. One area, though, that needs to be addressed, according to Jonice Webb, Ph.D., is the area of emotional neglect. Being emotionally present for your child is vital to a positive upbringing. This article explains the issues emotional neglect creates. While this focuses on mothers, I would encourage fathers to reflect on whether they are doing the same.
