A challenge here in Japan has been the battle for equal rights by sexual minorities. However, this is mirrored in increasing challenges in other countries too. Sexual minorities deal with higher psychological distress, unmet mental health needs, and barriers to mental health care (Spengler et al., 2023). The article by Spengler et al (2023) highlights the difficulties of sexual minorities in addressing their mental health needs. This is an area that mental health services in Japan also have to consider. At North Tokyo Counseling we support the needs of sexual minorities in Japan.
