When we consider politics in the United States and the evolution of the polarized thinking that has resulted in increased segregation along political lines, the internet's contribution to paranoia through the use of conspiracy theories has become a source of concern in psychology. This interesting article by Eric W. Dolan discusses how conspiracy theories contribute to a significant increase in paranoia, suspicion of others, and fear of being observed.
